Charity Season's Greetings Cards
Support the Medical Research Foundation this festive season
Support life-changing medical research by making a donation to receive a pack of medical research-themed greetings cards.
This year we have three designs available - from winners of our annual festive image competition - see below for more information.

'Twinkling Toxoplasma’ is the winning image from our third Festive Science Image Competition, run in partnership with the Medical Research Council (MRC). The image features on our joint Season's Greetings card which is available to order below with a suggested donation to the Foundation.
The image, created by Dr Kseniia Bondarenko, Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Edinburgh, shows human skin cells grown in a lab environment, infected with a parasite, Toxoplasma gondii. The parasites’ basket-like skeleton structures, shown in various hues, reflect the appearance of a traditional Christmas tree. This technique has the potential to illuminate otherwise unseen elements of parasites, so that areas of infection within the body can be more effectively treated.
You can learn more about the competition, the science behind Kseniia's winning entry, as well as the second place and highly commended images in our news story on the Festive Science Image Competition for 2024.

Previous winning designs
We also have cards available to order featuring the winning images from 2023 and 2022.
'Ornamental organoids' was the 1st place winner in our 2023 Festive Science Image Competition.
The image shows liver organoids, reminiscent of Christmas baubles, and was created by Michaela Raab, PhD student at the MRC Human Genetics Unit, University of Edinburgh.

‘Cold Comforts’ was the winning design of our 2022 Festive Science Image Competition.
Designed by Dr Ed Hutchinson, Virology Researcher at the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research, the card combines the traditional festive image of a snowflake with an important message about how vaccines keep us safe from viruses over the holidays.

As with all designs, we suggest a donation of £5 for a pack of 5 cards. There is no price and any donation you make is purely voluntary.
