Health Crisis Action Fund

We have now reached a crisis point in human health. The Health Crisis Action Fund has been set up by the Medical Research Foundation to provide agile and dedicated funding to tackle growing threats, for the betterment of human health.

Will you become a Founding Patron of the Health Crisis Action Fund, and push forward research to address major crises facing human health?

Humanity is facing numerous catastrophic crises in human health.

  • A personal crisis as people affected by neglected conditions are suffering day in, day out, without the new treatments they desperately need.
  • A funding crisis where overlooked conditions such as chronic pain, mental health and childhood related diseases fail to get the research funding they need and deserve.
  • A global crisis brought on by antimicrobial resistance, climate change and the ever-present threat of future pandemics.

The Health Crisis Action Fund has been set up to provide agile and dedicated funding to tackle these growing threats, for the betterment of human health.

What research will I fund?

The Fund will help tackle these crises by plugging gaps in the research funding pipeline – supporting areas that are vital to human health, yet still underfunded.

Current research priorities include: emerging health threats like antimicrobial resistance and pandemics, helping children and young people, tackling the health impacts of climate change, and addressing neglected areas of mental health. You can learn more about the wide range of life-changing research we fund.

We focus on funding research in ways that will have the biggest possible impact on people’s lives.

Cutting-edge research

£74 could fund a half-day of a researcher helping on a vital project like Dr Katie Doores’ study into antibodies and vaccines. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, her research at Kings College London focused on how antibodies respond to different viruses. She was able to rapidly adapt to help establish the use of lateral flow antibody testing and help understand severe COVID-19 disease.

Why choose the Medical Research Foundation?

We are an independent charitable foundation formed by the Medical Research Council. This means we have both the freedom and expertise to fund the most important medical research questions of the time.

Our focus is solely on funding medical research, and we are not tied to any particular condition or research institution, meaning we can respond to emerging health needs and research opportunities identified by experts. The Health Crisis Action Fund plays a vital role in this – bringing the most important human health questions to the fore, and funding research that will provide answers.

My colleagues and I in the medical profession are agreed: we must take action. That’s why I am looking for a select group of individuals to partner with us and become a Founding Patron of the Fund.
