Emerging Leaders Prize Sponsorship
Become a sponsor of the Medical Research Foundation's Emerging Leaders Prize.
Sponsoring the Emerging Leaders Prize is a fantastic opportunity to support the careers of the next generation of UK research scientists and help change lives through medical research.
Your organisation can play a key role in our mission
Sponsoring the Emerging Leaders Prize allows your organisation to support vital medical advances for decades to come.
By sponsoring the prize you will also place your organisation in front of leading policy makers and members of the medical research community.
The Emerging Leaders Prize and all the other research that we fund is only possible as a result of the support received from our generous donors.
What is the Emerging Leaders Prize?
The Medical Research Foundation’s annual Emerging Leaders Prize celebrates outstanding scientists who are making a significant impact through their work.
The prize funding provides a springboard for the winners’ careers and their research, ensuring they can continue to tackle key health challenges – both now and long into the future.
In previous years, our Emerging Leaders Prize has recognised researchers working in the fields of COVID-19, pain, antimicrobial resistance, adolescent mental health and lupus research.
What will the 2024 prize focus on?
The 2024 Emerging Leaders Prize will recognise scientists who are making an impact with their research into the health impacts of climate change in the UK.
Climate change is a severe and continually growing threat to human health worldwide. Despite our knowledge of the general health impacts of climate change, it remains difficult to accurately measure the scale and range of effects on human health. Even today, this area of research is underfunded.
That’s why we have chosen to focus this year’s prize on climate change and health. The 2024 prize will provide funding to mid-career scientists who have shown how health outcomes in the UK are being impacted by climate change and demonstrated their potential to be research leaders of the future. The winners will be announced at an award ceremony on 28 November 2024 in central London.

2022: Pfizer Limited
We were delighted that Pfizer Limited partnered with us for the Foundation’s 2022 Emerging Leaders Prize on Lupus.
The 2022 prize was awarded to those making a significant impact in lupus research. By investigating the fundamental causes of the condition, their studies could lead to much-needed new approaches to diagnosis and treatment. In turn, these advances could dramatically improve the lives of adults and children living with lupus. Up to 50,000 people in the UK are thought to have lupus, a complex, long-term illness that can cause damage to the skin, organs, joints or any other part of the human body.
The prize was funded by a generous gift in Will from Dr Erina Herrick and the event was sponsored by Pfizer Limited.
2021: Pfizer Limited
Pfizer Limited also partnered with us for the Foundation’s 2021 Emerging Leaders Prize on COVID-19.
The prize was dedicated to exceptional scientists whose research made a significant impact in the fight against COVID-19. The ground-breaking research carried out by our winners has helped to accelerate our understanding of COVID-19, offering rapid scientific insight into key questions concerning the transmission, control and treatment of the disease. In turn, this pioneering work has helped to inform, influence and shape government policy – both in the UK and overseas.
Financial support towards the 2021 Emerging Leaders Prize on COVID-19 research was provided as a Charitable Donation from Pfizer Limited. Financial support towards the 2021 Emerging Leaders Prize Award Ceremony was provided as a Corporate sponsorship from Pfizer Limited.
2019: Shionogi B.V.
We were pleased to have Shionogi B.V. partner with us for the Foundation’s 2019 Emerging Leaders Prize on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
AMR, and specifically antibiotic resistance, poses a global threat to human life, requiring urgent action to halt resistance and to accelerate new treatments for bacterial infection. The 2019 prize was awarded to outstanding scientists who are making a significant impact in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.
The prizes for 2019 were made possible thanks to a grant from Shionogi B.V. as well as a legacy gift from Johanne Menage and her husband, the late Professor Victor Menage.
