Professor Rosalind Smyth CBE

Professor Rosalind Smyth CBE, who joined our Board in April 2022, is recognised nationally and internationally as a leader in research into children’s health. In 2015 she was awarded a CBE for services to the regulation of medicines for children.

Rosalind Smyth is Professor of Child Health at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health and Honorary Consultant in Paediatrician Respiratory Medicine at Great Ormond Street Hospital. She was Director of this Institute from 2012-22 and is currently Vice-Dean (Research) in the UCL Faculty of Population Health Sciences. Her current research interests include clinical studies of viral/host interactions in RSV bronchiolitis and clinical trials and systematic reviews of treatments for childhood respiratory disease. Rosalind previously served as Professor of Paediatric Medicine at the University of Liverpool and held the position of Director of the NIHR UK Medicines for Children Research Network, which supports a variety of paediatric research across England.

Nominated to the Foundation’s Board by the Medical Research Council (MRC), she also serves as the Chair of MRC’s Training and Careers Group. Among other commitments, Rosalind is the Vice President (Clinical) of the Academy of Medical Sciences and serves on the Board of Directors at the University of Cambridge Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She also serves as Board member of International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh, and The Lister Institute.

Rosalind received a CBE at the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list of 2015 for services to the regulation of medicines for children.
