His research interests are in field of kidney cell molecular biology for which he has was awarded an MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship and subsequent MRC Senior Clinical Fellowship to establish his laboratory. Richard also holds a number of teaching and training roles, including serving as the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health South West Regional Academic Training Advisor and being a co-director of the Wellcome Trust funded GW4 clinical academic training Fellowship scheme (including allied health professionals). He is the Chair of UKRI-MRC’s Genome Editing Mice for Medicine Panel, and former member of the UKRI-MRC’s Population and Systems Medicine Board (PSMB) and UKRI-MRC Training and Careers board.

Professor Richard Coward joined our Board in April 2022. Richard Coward is Professor of Renal Medicine at the University of Bristol and Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
