Dr Aoife Kiely

Head of Research Funding (maternity cover)

Aoife joined the Foundation in February 2026 as our Head of Research Funding (maternity cover). In this role, she leads on the development and running of funding calls and the grants management process for the Foundation.

Aoife studied neuroscience at University College Cork and earned a PhD in biochemistry focused on Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. She then worked as a postdoctoral associate at the Queen Square Brain Bank, UCL Institute of Neurology, researching inflammatory mechanisms in multiple system atrophy and characterising rare forms of Parkinsonism. Following her time in research, she joined the Alzheimer’s Society as a communications officer before moving to the UK Dementia Research Institute to manage their awards and initiatives programme. Before joining the Foundation, Aoife held the role of funding manager at Moorfields Eye Charity, handling grant funding and restricted income awards.
