Air pollution
Climate change and health
Dr Obianuju Ozoh and Dr Davies Adeloye are examining how climate change has implications for respiratory health in Nigeria.
Dr Obianuju Ozoh and Dr Davies Adeloye from the University of Lagos and Teesside University found that, in Nigeria, there is a low level of knowledge and understanding of the impacts of climate change on health, including respiratory health.
The team plan to conduct a series of longitudinal studies in Lagos and Ogun States, in South-West Nigeria, to understand the impacts of climate change on respiratory health while actively engaging key stakeholders and the communities to develop strategies to mitigate its impacts.
Through a population-based household study, they will collect data on personal exposures to air pollution and link these with the development of respiratory problems. The team will also interview community members to understand their knowledge and awareness of climate change and its adverse impacts and how they build resilience.
By working with key stakeholders, they seek to review these findings and develop solutions that are context-based, cost-effective and relevant across ages, gender, income, residence, religion, and ethnicity.
