A previously Foundation-funded project led by Dr Fadi El-Jardali generated valuable evidence and knowledge to inform health reforms and policies around refugee integration and universal health coverage (UHC).

The lack of UHC schemes and sustainable financial mechanisms, as well as significant challenges in health information systems, can prevent access to health services for refugees and other vulnerable populations. Dr El-Jardali has studied countries like Jordan, Lebanon, and Uganda, to present key elements for successful integration policies such as political commitment, sustainable financial sources, strong primary health care (PHC) systems, refugee data integration in national health information systems (HIS), and multi-sectoral collaboration and coordination among different actors.

The team aims to share their evidence at the national level in Jordan and Lebanon, and to policymakers and stakeholders from government agencies. This will provide them with information to design universal health coverage schemes and strategies that provide access to high quality health services to both nationals and refugees. The team also aim to disseminate the evidence at the global level to the UNHCR, MSF, WHO and8 the World Bank.
