Dr Victoria King appointed as our new CEO
We're delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Victoria King as our new CEO.
Victoria will join us in November from Barts Charity, where she has been Director of Funding and Impact since 2019.
Victoria will succeed Dr Angela Hind, who is stepping down in November after 20 years leading the Foundation.
Angela has played a transformative role in shaping the organisation we are today. Under her leadership, the Foundation has grown from a collection of charitable funds into a thriving, fully independent charity.
Like Angela, our new CEO has spent her career championing research that has the power to change lives.
At Barts Charity, Victoria leads a £30 million funding portfolio supporting medical research, healthcare innovation and better care for patients. She has shaped the charity’s strategy, launched major new research programmes, and helped mobilise a £7 million response fund during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before joining Barts Charity, Victoria spent seven years at Wellcome, where she held a range of senior leadership roles. Victoria played a key part in shaping large-scale research programmes, building partnerships and supporting major investments across the UK research sector.
Victoria has a PhD in Biochemistry and is currently Chair of the Board at Guts UK.
Dr Victoria King said: “It’s a privilege to join the Medical Research Foundation following the exceptional leadership of Dr Angela Hind. I’m excited to work with the Board, staff team, researchers and supporters to build on the Foundation’s many achievements and strengths, and to support medical research that changes lives.”
We all like to believe that if we ever get ill, medical science will have an answer. Yet there are still too many conditions affecting millions of us where research is critically underfunded. That’s why the Foundation exists, and why I’m so proud to be part of an organisation that finds and funds the right research, plugs gaps in medical knowledge, and helps turn discoveries into real-world change. Dr Victoria King, our new CEO
Dr King added: “I’m looking forward to working with colleagues to shape and deliver the Foundation’s next strategy, building on the remarkable progress Angela and the team have made. Together, we have an opportunity to take the charity to the next level, growing its impact while staying true to the purpose and values that have guided the Foundation throughout its history. I can’t wait to get started.”
Professor Paul Moss OBE, Chair of the Medical Research Foundation, said: "Victoria brings exceptional leadership experience, deep understanding of the UK research and innovation landscape, and a strong commitment to improving human health through research. The Board is delighted to appoint her as the next CEO of the Medical Research Foundation."
We look forward to welcoming Victoria in November, sharing more about her vision for the Foundation, and introducing her to our community of researchers, supporters and partners in the months ahead.
