Professor Moira Whyte OBE


Moira was nominated by the Medical Research Council (MRC) as a Trustee of the Medical Research Foundation from July 2018

Moira is the Sir John Crofton Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Edinburgh and Head of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. She is a respiratory physician whose research interests are in mechanisms of inflammation resolution in the context of chronic lung diseases such as COPD and interstitial lung disease.

Moira is Chair of the Training and Careers Group and member of the Strategy Board at the Medical Research Council. She is Chairing Unit of Assessment 1 (Clinical Medicine) Panel of the Research Excellence Framework 2021 exercise. She has also chaired a number of scientific advisory and grant awarding committees for a range of medical charities.

She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
