Re-Launch of the Peter Horlock Travel bursary

July 2017

The Medical Research Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the Peter Horlock Travel bursary scheme in association with UK PET Chemistry (UK PET CHEM).

Peter Horlock worked as a technical officer in the Radiochemistry section of the MRC Cyclotron Unit. His area of expertise was in effecting innovative technical advances in the production of cyclotron produced radiopharmaceuticals for clinical research. At the time of his untimely death in 1988, the applications of his work were primarily in the field of positron emission tomography (PET).

The purpose of this memorial fund is to support graduate technical staff in the earlier stages of their career development to undertake working visits to other research centres of excellence, to help in advancing their work in the very specialized field of PET radiochemistry.

The UK PET Chemistry steering committee (UK PET CHEM) will be awarding these bursaries on behalf of the Medical Research Foundation, and has announced this year’s call for applications open now.

The closing date for applications is 24th July 2017.

Applications are welcomed from UK technical workers in the earlier stages of their careers in the field of PET radiochemistry application and development, with the aim to enable them to arrange and undertake working/fact finding visits to other PET radiochemistry sites or to attend scientific conferences both in the UK and further afield.

Up to two awards will be made annually, up to a maximum of £3k per award.
