Funding for African Early-Career Postdoctoral Researchers

The Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) has launched a Programme of Research Development Fellowships in global health targeted to African early-career postdoctoral researchers. These awards will support a placement of up to 9-months in a leading European or South African academic research institution, or in a research-oriented industry or policy-making setting. Funds can be provided for advanced research training, the development of collaborations leading to a funding proposal, and enabling longer-term mentorship.  The deadline for this first call for applications is 8 July 2015.

About Africa Research Excellence Fund

The AREF been established by the Medical Research Foundation to nurture African health research at its most vulnerable points, by supporting and developing people, projects and infrastructure to deliver excellent research in Africa for the benefit of Africa.

The AREF’s initial focus is on early-career postdoctoral researchers who, typically, are at a critical period of their careers.  We aim to enable Sub-Saharan Africa’s most talented health scientists to remain in research in Africa, and to achieve their full scientific and leadership potential.

We work in partnership to achieve shared aims.
