Old picture of researchers

The Medical Research Council has been eligible to accept charitable bequests and donations since its inception in 1913 and funds given by the public have been supporting additional medical research, over and above that supported by successive governments, for over 80 years.

In the late 1960’s, the MRC registered its charitable funds with the Charity Commission and in September 2011, a new charitable company with a modern governance structure was registered to hold these charitable funds. The Medical Research Foundation was launched and the funds previously held by the MRC’s medical research charities were transferred to the new charity.

Through the Medical Research Foundation, the giving public can continue to support the work of the MRC and fund more high quality research and research training for human health.
